Hello Sweet Readers!
As most of you already know, I am a huge animal lover and my sweet Beagles, Lady and Honey, are like my own, furry children, so it comes as no surprise that when it came time for Honey’s 1st birthday, we had to celebrate BIG! I am so excited to share all the details from Honey’s Minnie Mouse-themed Puppy Party.
When it comes to party planning, Pinterest is a girl’s best friend. Although, for this particular party, there were a surprisingly low number of results when I typed “dog birthday party ideas” in the search bar. I decided that to get the best results, I just needed to look up (human) baby birthday party ideas instead and convert those results into the perfect dog party!
For Honey’s big day, my final choices came down to a Furry Fiesta, complete with a taco piñata filled with dog treats, or Disney’s “The Happiest Place on Earth, Honey’s 1st Birthday Party” theme.
I let Honey make the final decision since it was her party, and although she loves tacos, she’s a girly girl and her favorite movies are Disney, so she decided to go with the Minnie Mouse theme. I assured her there would still be plenty of snacks!
After inviting her closest dog friends in the neighborhood, I got to work on making this Puppy Party happen.
Every good party needs snacks, so I served “Hot Diggity Dogs”, “Donald’s Cheese and Quackers”, “Minnie’s Fruit Bows”, “Pluto’s Fudge Brownies”, “Lady’s Lollipops”, and “Minnie’s Homemade Pink Lemonade”. What made these party treats pop were the decorative labels that I made with markers and cut out paper shapes (super easy). It’s all about the details!
Honey’s Birthday Cake was a carrot, honey and peanut butter cake with cream cheese for the frosting. I have provided the recipe here:
1 cup flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 cup shredded carrots
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla
1/3 cup honey
1 large egg
Bake at 350 for about 25 minutes or until golden brown. Top with 1 package of softened cream cheese for icing.
The paw print cake pan came from Hobby Lobby.
Another key to a fun puppy party is games and activities. For Honey’s party, we made a Pin the Bow on the Honey game by drawing a big cartoon Honey on a poster board and then cut out little Minnie Mouse bows to stick on the board. I also had her very favorite Disney movie playing, 101 Dalmatians.
I made a backdrop for pictures with a pink banner from Hobby Lobby and Minnie Mouse balloons that I found at a local party store to capture sweet puppy party memories!
Finally, was the fun of choosing Honey’s birthday outfit. I decided to go with a pink tutu to match the theme, paired with a birthday crown that had a 1 on it. Lady wore her favorite party dress and I wore a white eyelet crop top and a black denim skirt, both from amazon, and completed my look with Minnie Mouse ears that I got from a local party store.
Fun fact: You can never let Lady know that it’s not her birthday party. If she finds this out, she’ll get very upset and become the dog version of Grumpy Cat.
Honey’s birthday party was a great success with some of her favorite people and pups there to celebrate. I hope this post was helpful to all my other crazy dog moms out there looking to plan a party for their sweet pooch, and I hope this was entertaining and cute for all of my other readers!
With Love,
Sweet Maddie Jane
